Breakfast cocktails – Balancoire

Mary cocktail - Balancoire

Mary: Reposado tequila, spicy tomato blend. $10
Balancoire, San Francisco CA

Since our food and service experience at this restaurant was a disaster, we were hoping that they could at least make a decent cocktail. Unfortunately, they couldn’t. The mimosa was super low quality and the bloody mary had a weird aftertaste. Boo!!!

The Big Unit cocktail – Hi Tops

The Big Unit cocktail - Hi Tops

Tito’s tequila, lemon, elderflower, champagne. $10
Hi Tops, San Francisco CA

Meh, I’m kinda tired of the specialty cocktails at Hi Tops. The ingredients usually sound great, but somehow the actual cocktails are usually a letdown. This cocktail was too tart and had no body, ugh!

House margarita – Velvet Cantina

House margarita - Velvet Cantina

100% Agave Dos Manos, triple sec, fresh citrus juices. Pitcher $27
Velvet Cantina, San Francisco CA

I’ve been to Velvet Cantina several times now and I haven’t been all that impressed with their margaritas. They’re decent, but nothing special. They’re not cheap so I would expect more “wow”!

Chips and salsa - Velvet Cantina
Chips and salsa. Complimentary
I do love their chips and salsa though. The chips are extra salty and their salsa is a bit different from most restaurants.

Who’s to Blame margarita – Margaritaville

Who's to Blame margarita - Margaritaville

Our traditional margarita made with Margaritaville Gold Tequila, Margaritaville Triple Sec, and our special margarita mix, served on the rocks. $8.95
Margaritaville, Las Vegas NV

Ugh, this was the weakest and smallest nine dollar margarita I have EVER had! The sad part is that I really didn’t expect anything better. What a waste!

Mango margarita – Carlos’n Charlie’s

Mango margarita - Carlos'n Charlie's

Sauza and mango mix blended. Happy hour 2 for 1, $15
Carlos’n Charlie’s, Las Vegas NV

This was SO frickin’ disgusting!!! There was almost no alcohol in this drink and the mango mix was super sweet and syrupy. I felt sick just drinking this ridiculous drink so I definitely didn’t want to finish it. Don’t waste your time ordering their weak, overpriced drinks! Actually, their food is marginal too.

House margarita – El Chupacabra

House margarita - El Chupacabra

Gold tequila, triple sec and their own sour mix, muddled limes, shaken and served on the rocks in a pint glass. $6
El Chupacabra, Seattle WA

These margaritas were decent. I asked for “no salt” but that’s a minor mistake. There were really annoying “ladies” sitting at the bar though and they were bullying a table of kids sitting nearby. Lame! The ladies seemed liked regulars so I guess they were permitted by the bar staff to bully other guests… 😦

Cadillac margarita – El Mirasol Cocina Mexicana

Cadillac margarita - El Mirasol Cocina Mexicana

1800 Reposado tequila, orange liqueur, sweet and sour, fresh lime juice and a float of Grand Marnier. Grande $14
El Mirasol Cocina Mexicana, Palm Springs CA

I really don’t mind paying $14 for a large margarita, but I hate it when a server tries to up-sell you and purposefully keeps you in the dark regarding the price of the larger item. I think it’s tacky and irresponsible. The drink always tastes worse when this happens anyway. Boo!

Skinny senorita margarita – Escena Lounge & Grill

Skinny senorita margarita - Escena Lounge & Grill

Patron tequila, refine sugar free margarita mix served on the rocks. $10
Escena Lounge & Grill, Palm Springs CA

I appreciated that this margarita was sugar free, but I wasn’t a fan of the flavor. The sugar substitute in the mix tasted a little funny. I think I’d rather scarifice having the sugar to get the correct flavor next time.

Skinny margarita – Lulu California Bistro

Skinny margarita - Lulu California Bistro

1800 Silver tequila, agave nectar and fresh lime juice. $5.99
Lulu California Bistro, Palm Springs CA

Not quite sure what made this margarita “skinny”, but it tasted pretty good! Perhaps it’s because they didn’t use any sugary margarita mix. They serve it in a huge glass so I’m sure the large quantity negates any “skinny” promises.

Puerto house margarita – Puerto Alegre

Puerto house margarita - Puerto Alegre
House margarita made with well tequila and lime. Pitcher $20
Puerto Alegre, San Francisco CA

These margaritas aren’t THAT good, but people seem to like them. I personally think they’re on the bland side and over priced. The service was also super slow during this visit.

Chips and salsa - Puerto Alegre
