Fish and chips - Fishetarian
Fresh rock cod dipped in traditional beer batter and rolled in Panko crust, fried in canola oil. Served with house tarter sauce. Three piece $14

These fried fish were tasty and very large (a great value), but they were actually pretty greasy (boo)! The fries weren’t greasy though, thank goodness.

Voted best clam chowder 11 years in a row. $6.75
Spud Point Crab Company, Bodega Bay CA

OMFG, this was probably one of the best clam chowders I’ve ever eaten! It’s no joke, this was frickin’ amazing. It was smokey, flavorful, and packed with clams and other ingredients. I loved it’s medium texture, and I could have eaten a vat-full. NOMS!

Moules frites – Aquitane

Moules frites - Aquitane
Fennel, saffron bouillon, garlic-parsley batonnes, served with fries. $15
Aquitane, San Francisco CA

Meh, I wasn’t impressed. The flavors were ok, but the mussels were small, a bit dry and shriveled. Even the toast was gummy and hard to chew.

Frites - Aquitaine
These frites were just ok for me. If you’re going to be on some food list, you better be frickin’ amazing, but there just weren’t. They were limp and soggy, and a bit greasy – definitely what you’re looking for in amazing French fries. Boo!

Boston clam chowder – Swan Oyster Depot

Boston clam chowder - Swan Oyster Depot
Cup $2.75
Swan Oyster Depot, San Francisco CA

This chowder was very good, but it wasn’t amazing. I don’t know, I guess I was expecting it to blow my socks off since this place is generally great at everything. They keep it simple, but keep it quality at the same time. This chowder could have stepped it up a couple notches.

Pulpo – Lolinda

Pulpo - Lolinda
Baby octopus, beans, frisee, salsa verde. $13
Lolinda, San Francisco CA

Mmm, this dish was very good! They kept the flavors bright and the octopus was surprisingly tender. I’m always afraid with octopus dishes because they tend to get tough and unchewable, but these thick octopus pieces had a wonderful texture.

Oysters – E&O Kitchen and Bar

Oysters - E&O Kitchen and Bar
Kim chee cocktail sauce. Happy hour $1 each
E&O Kitchen and Bar, San Francisco CA

I was a bit fearful of the kimchi cocktail sauce. Not because I don’t like the kimchi flavor, but because I usually don’t put cocktail sauce on my oysters and prefer a nice mignonette instead. Anyway, I opted against the cocktail sauce and just used the lemon for some flavor. You can’t beat a freshly shucked dollar oysters for happy hour!

Maple Old Fashioned cocktail - E&O Kitchen and Bar
Maple Old Fashioned: E&O single barrel whiskey, sugar, maple bitters. Happy hour $6
I was afraid that this was going to be too sweet, but thankfully it wasn’t. You could taste the maple bitters, but it wasn’t overpowering.

Crab Louie salad – Swan Oyster Depot

Crab Louie salad - Swan Oyster Depot
Iceberg lettuce, dungeness crab meat and Louie dressing. $27
Swan Oyster Depot, San Francisco CA

This was a pretty expensive lunch salad, but the crab meat was plentiful and delicious. It was probably one of the most simple salads I’ve ever had but it certainly was fabulous. Sometimes simple is perfect if the ingredients are quality.

This place is great! Perhaps a bit expensive, but the seafood is fresh, delicious, and worth it. I also like the super casual atmosphere and the friendly workers. It’s definitely a testosterone-filled environment. These oysters were small, briny, nicely cleaned, and very tasty!
