Happy hour, each $5
Huggo’s on the Rocks, Kailua-Kona HI
I really like this place for happy hour! And five dollar mai tai’s are a great way to start the evening. The service is also very helpful and friendly. Yay!

4 scoops of poke, 2 sides, and 2 scoops of with rice. $25.50
Da Poke Shack, Kailua-Kona HI
Omg, this was SO good! I certainly liked some of the poke more than others (usually the more savory ones more than the sweet ones). I especially liked the baby octopus poke and the shoyu poke. I also liked the pickled clams side. Mmm, SO tasty!

Shredded pork cooked with cabbage, served with rice and cole slaw. $11.75
Shaka Restaurant, Naalehu HI
This was a great local restaurant that we stumbled upon on the southern coast of the Big Island. It seemed like it was family run and operated and the food was very homey and delicious. Mmm…

Artichokes, sundried tomatoes, olive and fresh herbs in pepperoncini sauce. $13
Lark, San Francisco CA
This dish was just as tasty this time around. The calamari rings appeared to me larger this time, but I thought they tasted great and were easy to chew.

Shredded baby Kula romaine, Kamuela tomatoes, feta, red onions, lime-caper vinaigrette. $23
Tommy Bahama Restaurant, Honolulu HI
I liked this salad, but the lettuce was over-dressed and almost runny. I liked the flavors and textures of the dish though. I thought the crab was bright and fresh tasting, and the tomatoes were beautifully ripe.

Buttermilk chive spaetzle, romanos, huckleberry mostarda. $32
Waxman’s Restaurant, San Francisco CA
This was cooked beautifully! The skin was nice and crispy and the meat was tender and juicy. I enjoyed the spaetzle and the huckleberry tasted great with the duck.

Mild Japanese curry with shredded beef and onions. $5.25
Marukame Udon, Honolulu HI
This was very hearty and tasty. I loved the thick udon noodles and the Japanese curry was very flavorful. Mmm…

Teriyaki chicken, hamburger steak, potato macaroni salad, pineapple coleslaw. $13.95
Big Island Grill, Kailua-Kona HI
Mmm, this was some salty, gravy goodness! I sweat I gain pounds when I travel to Hawaii, but their plate lunches are just so darn tasty!

Daikon, cabbage, kimchee, choy sum, and rice. $10.50
Gina’s BBQ, Honolulu HI
Wow, this plate lunch was pretty sizable! There was plenty of food for two people. I loved that you got to choice of sides and they were all good.

Cole slaw, Old Lahaina dark rum bbq sauce. $16
Tropics Bar & Grill, Honolulu HI
These were tasty and fall-off-the-bone tender. I liked the dark rum bbq sauce which added even more flavor to these ribs.

Crispy chicken wings served with sweet chili sauce. $13
SKY Waikiki, Honolulu HI
These wings were gross. They were super dry and over-fried. They were also really small and there weren’t any drumettes!

Lotus root shoots, pig ear, shrimp, carrots, celery, bell pepper, onion, basil, mint, peanuts. $11.50
Mau, San Francisco CA
This salad was different, but delicious! I love the interesting combination of flavors and textures. The shrimp chips were also provided even more texture and was just fun to eat with the bright salad.
