Ancient grain salad. $16
Kapnos, Washington DC
The lamb tasted pretty good, but I thought that the presentation was a bit of a mess and the cuts (scraps) were sad. There were also lots dry pieces which was unfortunate.

Wow, that mac and cheese was pretty amazing! The chicken wings were good, but I’ve had better. The mac and cheese though… Gimme some more, please!

John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.

Squash, zucchini, tomato. $29
Le Diplomate, Washington DC
Hmm, this wasn’t my favorite. There was something bitter and a bit fishy to this dish that I didn’t enjoy. It’s weird because I had brunch here the day prior and everything was great. Why couldn’t dinner be equally as fabulous. Perhaps I ordered the wrong things…

Washington Monument.

Trahana, tomato, chili. $14
Kapnos, Washington DC
This tasted good, but I have to repeat the fact that most of the dishes here are overpriced. I think that 3 prawns should not cost fourteen bucks. Am I wrong? Ugh.

George Washington family statue, Mount Vernon.

Pain d’epice, huckleberry mustard. $15
Le Diplomate, Washington DC
Mmm, this appetizer was heaven! The foie gras parfait was whipped to an light, silky texture and it was so delicious with the toast and huckleberry. It was very rich but I tried my best to finish it throughout the meal. Noms!

Ventoux: old overholt rye, lemon, egg white, red wine float. $12

US Botanic Garden Conservatory.

Mizitha cheese, tomato, kalamata olives, capers. $12
Kapnos, Washington DC
Firstly, I think twelve bucks is a bit much for a few stalks of broccolini. Secondly, their was a fishy flavor to this dish that I really couldn’t place my finger on. It tasted like there was some anchovies or something fermented. I liked the flavor, but there was nothing written on the menu that would point indicate its source.

National World War II Memorial.

Quince, lavender honey, spiced nuts, cranberry-walnut bread, one each cow, goat, sheep. $16
Thally, Washington DC
Mmm, this was a really good cheese plate. I liked the variety of milk source and the garnishes were yummy!

Andrew W. Mellon Auditorium.

Smoked eggplant, roasted peppers, walnuts, feta. Served with flatbread. $8

National Mall view from the Washington Monument towards the Capitol Building.

On a brioche bun, side of asparagus. $10
Gershwin’s, Norfolk VA
A friend and I had done a dinner cruise on the Elizabeth River, but wanted to extend our night so we ducked into Gershwin’s for some live entertainment. We sat at the bar and enjoyed talking with our friendly (and talkative) bartender. Even though we already had a full dinner on the cruise, we decided to split a burger anyway. And I must say that the burger (half) was pretty tasty!

The Washington: a Manhattan made with cherry infused bourbon. $10

Spirit of Norfolk.

Volcano: shrimp tempura, spicy tuna, eel, avocado, cucumber, roe, spicy mayo, eel sauce. $9
Dynamite Wasabi: tuna, salmon, yellow tail, wasabi fish roe. $8.50
Raku, Washington DC
These rolls were ok. The sushi rice was really dry though so I couldn’t get over that part. I liked the flavors of both, but they were difficult to eat because of the crappy rice.

Kirin Ichiban Japanese draft beer.

Old Post Office Pavilion.

Lamb and seasoned rice, gyro meat, chicken curry. $8.95
Afghan Kabob House, Arlington VA
This was pretty good. The gyro meat was too dry for my taste but maybe some people like it like that. I thought the lamb and chicken were tasty though.
