Hot fudge sundae – Ben & Jerry’s

Hot fudge sundae - Ben & Jerry's
With whipped cream, oreo, and peanuts. $5.99
Ben & Jerry’s, Oxon Hill MD

Mmm, I haven’t had a sundae in a really long time and this one was large and delicious! National Harbor is really touristy but it wasn’t packed during this week night. An ice cream dessert along the waterfront was the perfect way to end the work day!

Fruit tart – KC Cafe

Fruit tart - KC Cafe
Strawberries and blueberries. $5.95
KC Cafe, Washington DC

After a full day of sightseeing and walking everywhere, we decided to grab a quick snack at the Kennedy Center before catching the sunset from the rooftop. This fruit tart was pretty good and paired well with wine for a nice, relaxing break.

Mmm, this dessert was SO good! I loved that it wasn’t too sweet, and all the different textures and flavors were lovely. It was fun scooping up the delicious orange-caramel sauce from the bottom for a perfect spoonful.

Apple tarte tatin – Le Diplomate

Apple tarte tatin - Le Diplomate
Vanilla ice cream, whipped creme fraiche. $8
Le Diplomate, Washington DC

This dessert was delicious! But then I do love tarte tatins. This one was especially good and beautiful. I loved the large apple wedges and their magnificent color. The fruit still had a pleasant firmness to them which made them even better. Noms!

Strawberry mocha ice cream – Ping Pong

IMG_8238
Lunch prix fixe $25
Ping Pong, Washington DC

I’ve never been a big fan of mocha ice cream. I don’t really like the texture and (non)flavor of the pound sticky rice coating and the small amount of ice cream filling is never satisfying enough. I’d rather have American ice cream or Italian gelato any day.

Vanilla bean creme brulee – Le Diplomate

Vanilla bean creme brulee - Le Diplomate
Sable Breton cookie. $8
Le Diplomate, Washington DC

Crème brulees don’t usually excite me unless their an unexpected flavor so I wasn’t crazy about this dessert. It tasted fine and the vanilla flavor was there, but I wasn’t wowed. I did like the Breton cookies though.

Valrhona chocolate amargo & lemon ricotta cardamom gelato – Dolcezza

Valrhona chocolate amargo & lemon ricotta cardamom gelato - Dolcezza
Small $5.45
Dolcezza, Washington DC

Well, this was good but not worth the high price tag. I was a little surprised because food in general was cheaper in DC than in SF, but for some reason Dolcezza seems to charge more for their gelato. The flavors were good, but I wasn’t amazed by the texture and probably won’t be running back for more.

Death by Chocolate torte - The Trellis Restaurant
Seven layer chocolate torte with a hand-rolled white chocolate truffle, chocolate ice cream and dark chocolate sauce. $10.95
The Trellis Restaurant, Williamsburg VA

Wow, talk about a decadent dessert! I liked everything about this torte except for the white chocolate truffle. I’m just not a big fan of white chocolate. Suffice it to say that we couldn’t finish this humongous slice. Noms!

Creme brulee doughnut - Woodward Takeout Food
Mmm, this donut was delicious! I loved the texture of the dough and the custard filling was also yummy. I will say that I though there was too much brûléed sugar on top, but that’s just me. I just there’d be just as much if it was a real creme brûlée.
