Little gem and roasted baby beet salad – Prospect

Little gem and roasted baby beet salad - Prospect
Green goddess dressing. $12.50
Prospect, San Francisco CA

This salad was good. I appreciated the care they took in stacking the lettuce leaves atop the beets, and I liked the flavor of the green goddess dressing but I wasn’t blown away by the salad as a whole. I definitely wouldn’t include it in a list of things you have to eat before you die.

Thai chili cheddar sausage – Smokestack

Thai chili cheddar sausage - Smokestack
Per half pound $12
Smokestack, San Francisco CA

I liked the texture of this sausage. It’s wasn’t too dense so it was a pleasure to eat. I was expecting more heat from the Thai chilis but really didn’t get much heat at all. Overall, the sausage was good but nothing to write home about.

Beyond ramen – Orenchi Beyond

Beyond ramen - Orenchi Beyond
Tonkotsu based soup, pork belly, egg, green onion, bamboo shoot, sesame, dried seaweed, fried garlic, mizuna.
Orenchi Beyond, San Francisco CA

Omg, this bowl of ramen may have been on the small side, but it certainly was delicious! Maybe it was due to the fattier-than-normal tonkotsu broth or the fattier-than-normal cut of pork belly, but I couldn’t stop eating it! A definite must-try.

Brine pickled french fries – Al’s Place

Brine pickled french fries - Al's Place
Smoked apple sauce. Family style menu, $60 per person
Al’s Place, San Francisco CA

I liked the texture of these fries. They were a nice combination of fried edges and limp center. But I really didn’t like the flavor. Don’t get me wrong, I’m a total pickle fanatic but these just tasted weird to me and they were too sour. I also though the choice of the smoked apple sauce didn’t work very well. I think all the hype is unfounded with these, but I’m just going by my own preference.

Everything bagel with cream cheese – Wise Sons Jewish Delicatessen

Everything bagel with cream cheese - Wise Sons Jewish Delicatessen
$3.50
Wise Sons Jewish Delicatessen, San Francisco CA

This bagel was unlike any other bagel I’ve had in San Francisco. I don’t know, I’m not a New York bagel expert, but some people find Wise Sons bagel comparable to their precious NYC bagels. My opinion is that this bagel was very good. I loved the plentiful amount of seeds that created a thick crunchy, crusty layer on the outside. The interior wasn’t doughy or dense like some other bagels I’ve had that I didn’t like. For me, this bagel was a winner!

Black pepper and water buffalo casonsei - Flour + Water

Mmm, these little pillows were perfection! The water buffalo filling was so good and I loved the aggressive black pepper flavor. The rich sauce and fun textures put this pasta over the top. Noms!

Tajarin with brown butter giblet – Flour + Water

Tajarin with brown butter giblet - Flour + Water
Nettle and cippolini agrodolce. Pasta tasting $70
Flour + Water, San Francisco CA

I’ve never heard of tajarin pasta before, but I guess it’s a thinner version of tagliatelle. Anyway, the best part of this dish was the brown butter giblet sauce – omg, SO good! Combined with the grated cheese on top, it was the best combination of sweet and salty.

Raviolo di ricotta – Cotogna

Raviolo di ricotta - Cotogna
$22
Cotogna, San Francisco CA

This was a wonderful combination of sweet, salty, and cheesy! This large raviolo was really fun to eat, but I think I got a bit overloaded with all the richness of the ricotta center. It tasted so good though that I couldn’t stop eating it, lol!
