Peanut butter ice cream. Family style menu, $60 per person
Al’s Place, San Francisco CA
Mmm, this was pretty tasty! The brownie wasn’t as good as the one from Marla Bakery, but all the flavors were great and I loved the peanut butter ice cream.

Smoked fumet (fish stock), charred asparagus pesto, goat’s gouda. Family style menu, $60 per person

I thought that this pasta dish looked beautiful, but overall it was flat for me. Maybe I was just full, but I wasn’t excited or fulfilled by this dish.
Goat’s milk curds, yuzu blaster, pickled beets, broccoli, yellowfeet. Family style menu, $60 per person
Al’s Place, San Francisco CA
Mmm, this was probably one of my favorite dishes of the meal. It was nice and warm, and the had a variety of wonderful flavors that were all brought together by the yummy grits.
Brocamole, burrata, pink lady vinegar. Family style menu, $60 per person
Al’s Place, San Francisco CA
Meh, I don’t know if I really enjoyed this. I liked the individual components, but they just didn’t all come together to make a deliciously harmonious plate. And again with the side-plating, ugh!
Crispy potato, smashed turnip, walnut, bagna cauda. Family style menu, $60 per person
Al’s Place, San Francisco CA
This was fine, but nothing earth-shattering. What I’m really over is this plate-everything-to-one-side crap though. Like this chinaware is so beautiful that I need to see the bottom of it. I think it’s pretty tacky.
Radish, herbed avocado dressing, pistachio crumble. Family style menu, $60 per person
Al’s Place, San Francisco CA
This salad was certainly beautiful with all the assorted flower petals on top. It tasted pretty great too. It was clean and crisp and a joy to eat.
Sauce romesco. Family style menu, $60 per person
Al’s Place, San Francisco CA
This was yummy. I liked the texture and flavor of the chickpeas and the romesco sauce was just lovely! Mmm…
Smoked apple sauce. Family style menu, $60 per person
Al’s Place, San Francisco CA
I liked the texture of these fries. They were a nice combination of fried edges and limp center. But I really didn’t like the flavor. Don’t get me wrong, I’m a total pickle fanatic but these just tasted weird to me and they were too sour. I also though the choice of the smoked apple sauce didn’t work very well. I think all the hype is unfounded with these, but I’m just going by my own preference.

Curry, micro greens. Family style menu, $60 per person
Al’s Place, San Francisco CA
This almonds were really tasty. I don’t think I’ve ever had curry-crusted almonds before but they were fun to eat and had great flavor. Not sure how the greens fit in though – kinda awkward to eat with the almonds.
Preserved meyer lemon butter, salt. Family style menu, $60 per person
Al’s Place, San Francisco CA
I was a bit surprised when this first snack came out, and I had to giggle a bit. I don’t think I’ve ever been served fresh, whole radishes as a dish before. I felt like a rabbit or something, lol! I guess it was good and the butter tasted great, but I guess I expected some type of preparation beside washing the radishes and placing them on a plate. 🙂
