Mortadella sandwich – Trou Normand

Mortadella sandwich - Trou Normand
Little gems, pickled onions. $14
Trou Normand, San Francisco CA

Mmm, Trou Normand certainly knows their meats! This mortadella was absolutely divine. It had a wonderfully soft texture and the little pieces of goodness embedded within it were so good. The rest of the ingredients are on the simple side, but when they’re of such good quality they don’t need to be fancy. What a great sandwich!

Cheesesteak – The Grove

Cheesesteak - The Grove
Creek Stone Farm Black angus flank steak, fontina, roasted sweet onion, hot and sweet peppers. Served with Kettle chips and a pickle. $11.50
The Grove, San Francisco CA

I guess when I ordered this, I expected it to arrive more as a traditional cheesesteak sandwich rather than a panini. It’s not really what I wanted, but it tasted ok. I thought it was on the dry side and the batard was hard.

Chicken sandwich – Super Duper Burgers

Chicken sandwich - Super Duper Burgers
100% natural free range chicken, lettuce, tomato, chipotle aioli on ciabatta bread, cheese. $7.25
Super Duper Burgers, San Francisco CA

I usually don’t enjoy chicken sandwiches because the chicken tend to be dry and tough, but this was an exception. The chicken was tender and juicy and very flavorful. That’s why I love me some Super Duper!

Sassy BLT – The Pink Elephant

Sassy BLT - The Pink Elephant
Sassy bacon, heirloom tomatoes, greens and avocado, with garlic fries. $15
The Pink Elephant, San Francisco CA

The sassy bacon was certainly sassy. Otherwise, this sandwich would have been on the ordinary side. I was actually surprised on their bread choice, but I though that it worked since it was still soft and not too hard and chewy. And their garlic fries rocked!

Cast-iron grilled cheese sandwich – Outerlands

Cast-iron grilled cheese sandwich - Outerlands
Brushed with garlic oil. Served with a side of butternut squash soup: berbere spice, ginger, yogurt, sesame butter. $12
Outerlands, San Francisco CA

Meh, I didn’t like this grilled cheese very much. The bread was too thick and super hard. I was afraid that it was gonna cut the inside of my mouth, and it was surprisingly bland. I liked the squash soup more than the sandwich and that’s sad.

Combination pork sandwich – Que Huong Vietnamese Deli

Combination pork sandwich - Que Huong Vietnamese Deli
Banh mi. $4
Que Huong Vietnamese Deli, San Francisco CA

According to online sources, what used to be Irving Deli is now Que Huong so I’m gonna count this as a check off the 7×7 list. I love banh mi sandwiches in San Francisco because they tend to be super delicious and so cheap. This sandwich was no exception. The bread was crisp and fresh and the pork was delicious. I will say that it was more fatty than other pork combo banh mi’s I’ve tried, but I didn’t mind.

Cheesesteak – Pat’s King of Steaks

Cheesesteak - Pat's King of Steaks
American cheese “wit” grilled onions. $8.80
Pat’s King of Steaks, Philadelphia PA

Yay, my first authentic Philly cheesesteak! I liked it, but I was a bit disappointed after all the hype. I’m not convinced that this was better than some of the great cheesesteaks I’ve had outside of Philadelphia. This was still very yummy though!

Pastrami sandwich – Katz Delicatessen

Pastrami sandwich - Katz Delicatessen
With mustard on rye. 19.75

This sandwich was delicious and HUGE! But I guess you would expect a humongous sandwich for almost twenty bucks. The pastrami was SO flavorful and beautifully smoked. The mustard had a great tang. The rye bread wasn’t my favorite since I’ve had better elsewhere. This was definitely a two meal sandwich!

Pickles - Katz Delicatessen
Pickles. Complimentary
These pickles were great with a very interesting texture that I hadn’t experienced before. It’s hard to describe but it definitely wasn’t that of your typical pickle.
