Anita's combo - Anita's New Mexico Style Mexican Food
“New Mexico Style” red chile cheese enchilada, pork tamale, beef taco. Served with refried beans and rice. $12.99
Anita’s New Mexico Style Mexican Food, Chantilly VA

Wow, this was a lot of food! I really liked the red chile cheese enchilada because the sauce was delicious. The beef taco was basic and a bit dry, and the Mexican rice was bland.

Traditional guacamole – El Centro D.F.

Traditional guacamole - El Centro D.F.
Avocado, tomato, onion, cilantro, chile serrano. $10
El Centro D.F., Washington DC

I did not like this guacamole at all! There was a sharpness and odd flavor that I couldn’t identify. I appreciated that they finished the guacamole tableside, but I would have preferred less of a show and more of a better product.

Grilled chicken nachos – California Tortilla

Blackened chicken nachos - California Tortilla
Tortilla chips, cheese, blackened chicken, avocado, sour cream and salsa. $7.04
California Tortilla, Washington DC

Meh, this was plain and boring, and the fake nacho cheese was not a good idea. Not a good choice for lunch on an already boring day. At least they have a selection of hot sauces you can choose from to spice things up.

Tacos – El Sabor del Taco

Tacos - El Sabor del Taco
Chicken mole, carnitas, and fish. 3 for $10
El Sabor del Taco, Washington DC

These tacos were decent. I liked the corn tortillas, but they were thick enough to not have to double wrap the tacos. Ugh, too many carbs! The fillings were ok but they were kinda bland. I definitely had to use the lime and pour plenty of salsa on each.

Burrito desnudo – District Taco

Burrito desnudo - District Taco
Burrito bowl with carne asada, black beans, pico de gallo, sour cream, lettuce, cilantro, cheese, jalapeno, onion. $7
District Taco, Washington DC

This was a pretty decent lunch for seven bucks! I’ve noticed that the food in DC is cheaper than in San Francisco across all price points. It’s a nice little price break during this work trip! 🙂

Jack cheese and blackened chicken, black beans and spinach, Served with sour cream and salsa. $7.39
California Tortilla, Ranson WV

I actually liked this. The grilled tortilla and the chicken were a bit dry but I liked the simplicity of it. There wasn’t any frou frou ingredients to get in the way.
