Fried sticky rice dough on the outside and filled with a minced pork mixture. 3 for $1.60
Good Luck Dim Sum, San Francisco CA

I’d never had this dumpling before and I really like it! If the sticky rice dough was any thicker or less cooked, I’m not sure I would have liked it though.

Barbie car, The Mission. This car was kinda creepy and cool at the same time.

Dense and delicious! I doubt that there’s any real shark fin in these. 3 for $1.60

I love the sharp flavor of these dumplings. 3 for $1.95

Helen Diller Playground, Mission Dolores Park.

Jiao is my new go-to restaurant in Palm Springs for delicious Asian-inspired small plates! These crab sui mai, though, were probably my least favorite thing I’ve had there. They were bland and you could barely taste any of the crab! The wrapper was also dry. $7
Jiao, Palm Springs CA

Assorted dipping sauces. The crunchy one is my favorite! They’re all a bit salty, but I seem to douse every dish with some combination of these sauces, lol!

I love that they trim to old palm fronds that hang down on the palm trees. They look like tight pencil skirts!

Large pork dumpling in a broth with pieces of shark’s fin. $6
Tai Wu Mr. Fong’s Restaurant, Daly City CA

I really wasn’t sure what we would get when I ordered this since California has that ban on shark’s fin, but there was real shark’s fin in there! The shark’s fin didn’t really taste like anything, but it had a firm snappy texture.

The broth was yummy and super hot and the pork dumpling was a beast. I really didn’t know how to use the vinegar and shredded ginger so I would just pour a little on each spoonful. Hehe!

Abandoned building (old lookout?) with graffiti, Sweeney Ridge Trail. I really liked the colors and shapes in the graffiti. I can never read any of them, but I can at least appreciate their overal look.

Filled with combination seafood. These dumplings were delicious! I’m not sure what all the ingredients were in the filling because I can’t read or speak Chinese (we were the only non-Chinese in the entire restaurant), but it was flavorful and had an awesome texture. $6

Orange Indian paintbrush flowers (Castilleja sp., Orobanchaceae), Sweeney Ridge Trail. The trail was really beautiful and nicely maintained. It was hot up on the ridge and very bright that day.

Shrimp dumplings. These were nice and large and the wrapper wasn’t too thick, noms! $4.50
Tai Wu Mr. Fong’s Restaurant, Daly City CA

Random building (old lookout?) covered with graffiti, Sweeney Ridge Trail. By the time we walked to this point, the sun was blazing so we wimped out and walked back down. Since the trail is completely exposed it’s uncomfortable to walk on really HOT days.

Pork dumplings. These are a standard dim sum offering and I always seem to order them as a comparative measure. These weren’t too fatty and were of better quality than some other dim sum places.
Tai Wu Mr. Fong’s Restaurant, Daly City CA

Orange Indian paintbrush flowers (Castilleja sp., Orobanchaceae). We walked some hill trails near the restaurant and were treated to some spectacular wildflowers!

Half order with 4 pieces of pork wonton dumplings. $3.25
Au’s Kitchen, San Bruno CA
Why is wonton soup SO comforting?! I love the delicious broth and the wonton dumplings are always fun to eat.

Yellow sunflower (Helianthus annuus, Asteraceae), West Field Road. I’m convinced that the area in front of the SFO Post Office has the best dry-scaping in the city!

4-piece Japanese pork dumplings with jalapeno ponzu sauce. Happy hour $4
Barracuda Sushi, San Francisco CA
Noms, gyoza are one of my favorites! The warm crispy wrapper and yummy pork filling taste lovey when soaked in the ponzu sauce. Yes, please!

Crazy bishop angel sidewalk stencil, Osage Street. I don’t actually know what this is a stencil of, but it looks cool!
