I had mixed feelings about this dish. I liked the flavor of the chicken fried steak and gravy. I though the hashbrowns were burnt and my eggs were overcooked. The gravy was also almost too thick for my liking. The wheat toast was delicious.

Took this tray to a party down in the South Bay and of course it was a hit! Everyone loves lumpia. 🙂 I though the tray containing 110 pieces was also decently priced.

I thought this was a pretty good lunch option, especially at the price. I think they had just opened, because the guy working the grill didn’t have much cooking yet so it took a while to get any of the food out. I thought the chicken was decent (not too salty from the teriyaki sauce). Next time I’ll ask for more veggies and less rice.

This dish was fine, but I feel like the hamachi was the most boring part of the dish. It seemed kind of dead and really didn’t pop out even though it was supposed to be the star of this dish. The fish was fresh enough and it didn’t taste bad, but it was all mangled and flavorless.

I love pickled beets and I liked the contrast of the two beet varieties used. The chevre was a predictable choice, but it still tasted great with the beets. Mmm…

It’s really relaxing to come to the Tonga Room after work for happy hour. The atmosphere is fun and really makes you nostalgic for old time San Francisco. The drinks are pretty good and the happy hour prices make it worth it.
Singapore Sling: Tanqueray, cointreau, cherry heering. Fresh lemon and pineapple juices, Angostura bitters plus a Benedictine mist. Happy hour $9

This dish had an interesting flavor that I wasn’t completely sold on it for shrimp. The thick consistency of the sauce was also a bit of a put off. The grilled bread was also dry and crumbly. So apparently really didn’t like this dish very much, lol!

This cocktail was nicely made and you know how much I love large globes of ice! 🙂 This restaurant bar was warm and cozy and our bartender was super friendly and professional.

This food was marginal, even for a happy hour buffet. I guess you can get away with this when you’re a San Francisco institution. I will never do this happy hour buffet again though. I would rather spend the money on an extra drink.

This mac and cheese was very good. I wish there was a bit more lobster, but it had great flavor and the pasta was cooked nicely.

This was ok. The pork was dry and salty. Actually, even the imperial rolls were pretty salty even without the fish sauce. Don’t think I’ll be returning to this place for lunch. 😦
