Mexican benedict – Fuego Cocina y Tequileria

Mexican benedict - Fuego Cocina y Tequileria
Crispy masa shells, black beans, chorizo, poached eggs, chipotle hollandaise. 3 course brunch $19
Fuego Cocina y Tequileria, Arlington VA

This tasted pretty good, but damn it was rich and filling! The masa was thick and dense and combined with the chorizo and hollandaise, but was a recipe for definite heartburn. Thank god I have a stomach of steel! Like I said, it tasted good but I think I could have done with just one of them.

Mimosas - Fuego Cocina y Tequileria
Traditional Mimosa. $2
Prickly Pear Mimosa: cava prickly pear puree, orange juice. $5

Pepperoni and sausage slice – IPizzaNY

Pepperoni and sausage slice - IPizzaNY
Sprinkled with crushed peppers, oregano, and parmesan cheese.
IPizzaNY, New York NY

Came to Manhattan to visit some friends for the weekend and arrived late on a Friday night. It was direct to the bars and clubs, and of course greasy pizza afterward, lol! I don’t really remember the specific qualities of this slice, but I’m sure I enjoyed it in the moment. 🙂

Flautas de pato – Fuego Cocina y Tequileria

Flautas de pato - Fuego Cocina y Tequileria
Shredded bbq duck, queso oaxaca, mole negro, pickled onion. 3 course brunch $19
Fuego Cocina y Tequileria, Arlington VA

These duck flautas was pretty tasty. I loved the combination of the bbq sauce, tart pickled onions, and rich mole negro. I wasn’t a fan of the wrapper that they use though. It was too soft and greasy.

Chips and salsa - Fuego Cocina y Tequileria
Chips and salsa. Complimentary

Macho nacho – Pusser’s Caribbean Grille

Macho nacho - Pusser's Caribbean Grille
Corn tortilla chips served in a crunchy flour tortilla bowl, topped with seasoned beef, cheddar cheese sauce, black beans, tomatoes, scallions, shredded lettuce, guacamole, sofrito salsa, and sour cream. nutmeg. Happy hour $5
Pusser’s Caribbean Grille, Annapolis MD

I thought it was kinda odd to serve nachos in a tortilla bowl, but I guess if you really love tortillas this is for you. These nachos were ooey, gooey, cheesy, beefy, and so bad for you (in other words it was perfect, lol)!

Garlic scallop & spicy salmon hand rolls – SEI

Garlic scallop & spicy salmon hand rolls - SEI
Open sushi hand rolls. Happy hour $4 each
SEI, Washington DC

I definitely liked the spicy salmon more than the garlic scallop. The scallop hand roll tasted off and the texture was mushy. The spicy salmon had a more distinct flavor and a nice firm texture.

Faux Punishment cocktail - SEI
Faux Punishment: rum, star of anise, aromatic bitters, citrus. Happy hour $8

Hummus dip – Level

Hummus dip - Level
Black bean, jalapeno, yellow onion, lime juice, cumin, tomato, tortilla chips. Happy hour $4
Level, Annapolis MD

This hummus was delicious! And for only four bucks, what!? It had a great thick, substantial texture and really great flavors incorporated into it. It also had a nice kick to it which I really enjoyed.

Bourbonapolis cocktail - Level
Bourbonapolis: Woodford Reserve bourbon, aperol, apple shrub, lemon, orgeat, peychaud, hard cider cube. $9
A really yummy cocktail. And I loved the large hard cider ice cube – nice!

Guacamole – Fuego Cocina y Tequileria

Guacamole - Fuego Cocina y Tequileria
Smashed to order avocados, tomato, onion, serrano, fresh lime, served with tortilla chips. 3 course brunch $19
Fuego Cocina y Tequileria, Arlington VA

This guacamole was pretty tasty, and I liked the vibrant green color. I also thought that the nineteen dollar brunch option was great since you could choose almost anything off their regular menu.
