George Killian’s Irish Red – Smokey Bones

“Bones Brew” amber lager. This beer wasn’t too heavy and tasted great with the barbecue I had for dinner. Pint $2.25
Smokey Bones Bar & Fire Grill, North Charleston SC

Random door, downtown Charleston. I love random doors and windows and will often take photos of them if they look interesting or have an engaging color. This was a really cool door. I’m guessing that it’s some kind of loading dock since it’s above the level of the sidewalk.
“Seven Layers of Heaven” pork belly – Anson Restaurant

Spicy BBQ glaze, house ground grits, fried field peas, brussels sprouts leaves, maple jus. $12
Anson Restaurant, Charleston SC
Omg, this was SO frickin’ good! Not only was it plated beautifully, the pork belly and all the components were super delicious! One of the best appetizers I’ve had in a while! Noms!

The Willow Salon mural, Liberty Street. This cute mural is on the side of the building. You don’t come across many random murals in Charleston so I’m glad that The Willow Salon has this one.

She crab soup – Anson Restaurant

Laced with golden sherry. $8
Anson Restaurant, Charleston SC
Noms! I’ve had the she crab soup twice at Anson and it’s absolutely amazing. There are other versions made in Charleston that are much heavier and thicker which I don’t like as much. Anson’s soup is rich and flavorful but doesn’t sit in your stomach like a pound of bricks. Its consistency is perfect and the creamy crab flavor rocks!

Confederate Battle Memorial in Washington Park. This is a quaint park that’s perfect for sitting on a bench and relaxing while people walk about and take wedding photos.
Cocktails – Anson Restaurant

Manhattan Project – Bulleit rye whiskey, maraschino liquer, bitters. $12

Charleston Punch – Myers rum, grand marnier, orange juice. $11
Anson Restaurant, Charleston SC
Love the bartenders at Anson. They’re super friendly and their drinks are always neatly made and delicious. The Manhattan Project is killer and the Charleston Punch is sweet and refreshing.

Pineapple Fountain at the Charleston Waterfront Park. The pineapple is a symbol of hospitality in the low country. Perhaps it’s the botanist in me, but this fountain is one of my favorites among the MANY fountains I’ve seen in my lifetime. It’s not overly large, but it’s elegant, dramatic, and beautiful!
Liberty Farm Pekin duck – The French Laundry

Cornbread, cavolo nero, bean puree and barrel-aged maple. Chef’s Tasting Menu $270
The French Laundry, Yountville CA
This tasted amazing, but I wish that the duck skin had been seared. The fat underneath was pretty thick and it was difficult to cut and chew through. A good sear would have made eating it a little easier. The cornbread cubes were perfectly cut and were SO flavorful. I was afraid that this dish was gonna be too salty, but it was perfectly seasoned.

Signage at the front of the restaurant.
The Sleeper burger – Poe’s Tavern

Half-pound burger ground in-house and cooked to order. Served on a freshly baked bun, with lettuce, tomato, pickles, fried onions, and a side of hand-cut French fries. Topped with roasted garlic blue cheese and Buffalo shrimp. $11
Poe’s Tavern, Sullivan’s Island SC

What was I thinking ordering this super heavy burger? It was delicious, but super rich and large! I wasn’t very hungry at the time so perhaps this wasn’t the best choice. I will say that the patty had a weird texture. It was very crumbly underneath the sear and fell apart quite easily. The Buffalo shrimp was great though!

These fries were delicious, but they got soggy as they cooled down.

Gun powder room at Fort Moultrie. In the middle of the Fort, they had a reconstructed powder house containing barrels of gun powder. You can’t go inside, but I snapped this pic through the bars of the door window.

Coast Boy King double IPA – Poe’s Tavern

A highly hopped, yet still balanced, double IPA. Multiple hop varieties, emphasizing Citra Hops, were used. We’re lovin’ the tropical goodness of this hop variety! 9.7% abv. Seasonal. Coast Brewing Company. $10
Poe’s Tavern, Sullivan’s Island SC
They had a limited quantity in the area of the Boy King beer during this trip so I couldn’t pass it up. I’m no beer expert but this was good – definitely on the hoppier side.

Canon at Fort Moultrie. Didn’t get a chance to check out Fort Sumter, but it was a beautiful day and Fort Moultrie was near Poe’s Tavern so I was able to check out this smaller, older fort.
