Morcilla sandwich – Pepe

Morcilla sandwich - Pepe
House made morcilla, cebolla escabeche, spinach, fig, herbed cream cheese, fried Coulter Farm organic egg. $14
Pepe, Washington DC

This sandwich was delicious! But then I would expect it to for fourteen bucks (even from a food truck). It certainly was a fancy food truck sandwich though. The fried blood sausage was delicious and I loved its texture. And of course the runny fried egg just put it over the top.

Mmm, this sandwich was delicious! This was a fancy version of the Arby’s beef and cheddar sandwich (which I love, btw) and it was done right! I loved the cheese whz and the ranch mayo, and the beef was superb. Well done Red Apron!

Chick Chick sandwich - Woodward Takeout Food
Fried chicken breast, bread and butter pickle, bacon, lettuce, cranberry relish, mayonnaise, toasted bun. $9.95
Woodward Takeout Food, Washington DC

This was a damn delicious sandwich! Maybe fried chicken and bacon aren’t the most healthy lunch options but they tasted so good together, and the fried chicken breast was tender and juicy. I also love the soft brioche bun that they used. Noms!

Turkey reuben – Cafe Phillips

Turkey reuben - Cafe Phillips
$7.79
Cafe Phillips, Washington DC

I was visiting one of our other offices near Union Station and needed a place to eat lunch. I was told that this Cafe Phillips location was recently penalized by the Health Department for unsanitary practices, but I went anyway, lol! The person who told me said that they still recommend the place regardless of the violation. I actually liked this sandwich. It was warm and gooey and the turkey slices tasted great.

Shrimp po’ boy – Pearl Dive Oyster Palace

Shrimp po' boy - Pearl Dive Oyster Palace
House pickles, cayenne aioli. Served with French fries. Happy hour $10
Pearl Dive Oyster Palace, Washington DC

This place was jammin’ during happy hour! I was lucky enough that a gentleman was leaving the bar shortly after I arrived so I squeezed myself in. Thank goodness I’m small, hehe. I wanted to try more food than I did, but I wasn’t yet hungry. The shrimp po’ boy was very tasty though! The shrimp were cooked nicely and not greasy. I liked the flavors but thought that the bun was too thick and dry. It need more aioli or something to add some moisture. The fries were lovely though!

This sandwich was good, but not as spectacular as Ike’s. The Dutch crunch bread that I got was also a bit stale. I did like the combination of ingredients for this specialty sandwich though.

The Gulch panini – Whiskey Gulch Coffee Co.

The Gulch panini - Whiskey Gulch Coffee Co.
Ham, whiskey cheddar, apple butter and stone ground mustard on focaccia, served with side salad. $9.45
Whiskey Gulch Coffee Co., Port Orchard WA

This sandwich was good, but there was A LOT of cheese. I like cheese as much as the next guy, but there has to be come balance when it comes to a sandwich (except for a super cheesy grilled cheese perhaps). The flavors were good though and the salad was great.
