Seaweed out, cucumber, avocado, asparagus, carrot. $6
Sala Thai, Washington DC
Ugh, this roll was even more dry than the previous! Their sushi rice just isn’t very good. Without decent sushi rice, you’ll never make a decent roll.

Mini meatballs, vegetables and greens. Bowl $4.99
Ledo Pizza, Ranson WV
Meh, this soup didn’t taste any better than something from a can. It was actually really salty too.

This side of mac and cheese was pretty good. It was VERY cheesy and they load even more melted cheese on top.

Thinly sliced beef and lamb, tzatziki stuffed in a grilled pita with lettuce, tomato and onions. Served with potato salad. $9.50
John’s Cafe & Grill, Ranson WV
This wasn’t the best gyro, but it fulfilled my gyro craving. The meat was definitely previously frozen and pre-sliced, but it was a good size and had plenty of tzatziki which I love. But why does everyone use styrofoam around here?!

Morven Park, Leesburg VA.

Caught in Rhode Island, fennel bulbs, avocado puree, grapefruit vinaigrette with smoked garlic shiro, fresh lemon thyme and flowers. Tasting menu $95
Volt, Frederick MD
Wow, this dish was so fresh and inventive. I loved the combination of flavors and ingredients. You can tell that there was a lot of technique that went into preparing this dish, but it also ate very easily. That’s why I love Volt. The food is delicious without being overly complicated and weighty. There’s a familiarity with each bite that keeps the comfort and joy that you often lose with complicated plates. Volt’s dishes are deceptively simple because each bite is exciting and familiar at once.

Freshly baked breads. Complimentary

Soft-shell crab tempura, asparagus, avocado, masago, topped with eel sauce. $12
Sala Thai, Washington DC
I think it’s kinda weird that an “authentic” Thai restaurant offers a large sushi menu, but whatever… Anyway, the roll wasn’t very good. It was dry and pretty bland. The unagi sauce was also a weird consistency.

Stir-fried prawns with eggplant, onion, carrot, mushroom, bell pepper, zucchini and basil in hot chili sauce. $12.95
Thai Thani Kitchen, Seattle WA
I love eggplant dishes and this was no exception. The sauce was great in this dish and all the different vegetables tasted great. I do wish there was more eggplant though.

Covered in spicy Buffalo sauce, with celery sticks, blue cheese and ranch dressings. $8.99
Carolina Kitchen, Washington DC
These wings weren’t very good and there weren’t very many of them either. They were dry and pretty small in size. Boo!

Peach sangria. $10
Apparently when you order a sangria, they assume that you want peach instead of red. What? This tasted disgusting!

Neon US map, National Portrait Gallery.

With extra mozzarella cheese.
Alberto’s Pizza, Washington DC
This was a large and greasy slice of pizza – perfect after a night of bar-hopping, lol! Seriously though, this slice was gigantic!

Nationals Park.

Compressed kohlrabi, pickled Easter egg radish with chimichurri, duck macaron with foie gras frilling and sour cherry, rice krispy treat. Tasting menu $95

Potato puree, local green beans, natural jus. $18
Dish, Charles Town WV
The chicken was very tender and flavorful, but it certainly was a small serving. And OMG, both the chicken and mashed potatoes were so effing salty! I thought I might develop a kidney stone if I finished it – gross! The five pieces of green beans didn’t help things out either. Maybe this is God’s way of telling me that I’ve been overeating lately, lol!

Beef with bell pepper, basil and coconut milk cooked in panang curry sauce. $12.95
Thai Thani Kitchen, Seattle WA
This curry had a good flavor, but the slices of beef were pretty tough and difficult to chew. The unincorporated coconut milk on top also threw me off. I don’t think it looked very appetizing.
