Grilled calamari salad – Jane

Shaved celery, fresno chilies, garlic chips, oregano, aioli. $14
Jane, New York NY
UGH, this restaurant was SO annoying! Firstly, I couldn’t get water if my life depended on it, then they were out of taglitatelle so the waitress suggested this salad as an alternative. Imagine my surprise when everyone in our party got their large plates of steak, mussels, and salmon frites and I received this TINY bowl with a few bits of food in it. FML, who in would think that this dish is substantial enough to be an entree?! What a joke…

Napoletana pizza – Marta

Mozzarella, anchovy, red onion, thyme. $15
Marta, New York NY
Now this was a delicious pizza! The crust was perfectly thin and chewy and toppings were great. They were simple and of really great quality. A perfect combination that made for a yummy meal. NOMS!

Mortoni: Wodka vodka, campari, citrus, Q tonic. $10

Hedwig and the Angy Inch set, Belasco Theatre.
Roasted Jurgielewicz duck – Momofuku Ssam Bar

Lentil, carrot, prune. $24
Momofuku Ssam Bar, New York NY
I liked this dish, but I’m going to say that it was definitely on the salty side. The roasted duck tasted great (even though the skin was super chewy), but the duck egg rolls really didn’t have to be there. They were salty and the wrapper was oily. The lentil and duck combination was new to me and I liked it.

Truffle tots – Tonic East

Ketchup. $8
Tonic East, New York NY
I didn’t read good things about the food here, so I thought I’d play it safe with tater tots since I wasn’t really hungry anyway. You really can’t mess up fried tots, right? Anyways, these were actually pretty good and they give you plenty of them so it’s great for sharing.

Mimosa. Carafe $8
Uh, a great price when there’s no bottomless!

I loved the crusts at Rubirosa! They’re thin and delicious, and the toppings were super yummy. More please!

Macarons – La Maison du Macaron

Pumpkin and pink champagne. Each $2.75
La Maison du Macaron, New York NY
These macarons were delicious and I loved the flavor options. The loungey vibe of the space was also nice and relaxing. Noms!

Coffee. Small $2.25

Brooklyn Bridge.
Hibiscus doughnut – Dough

$2.75
Dough, New York NY
Mmm, I liked this donut. The dough was really nice and had a good chew to it. I thought that it was too heavily glazed though especially since the hibiscus glaze was very sweet.

Pork belly steamed buns – Momofuku Ssam Bar

Hoisin, cucumber, scallion. $10
Momofuku Ssam Bar, New York NY
The super fatty pork belly pieces had a great flavor, but there was just too much grease everywhere! The buns were literally soaked in grease from the pool underneath. Even the cucumbers couldn’t cut the flavor of the grease. I loved the hot sauce that came in the tiny squirt bottle (although it wasn’t very hot).

Stateside saison beer. $9

Empire Fulton Ferry State Park, Brooklyn Bridge.
Fuego sundae – Fuego Cocina y Tequileria

Aztec chocolate ice cream, tequila cherries, toasted almonds. 3 course brunch $19
Fuego Cocina y Tequileria, Arlington VA
This sundae was delicious and I think it was the tequila cherries and its juices that put it over the top! The Aztec chocolate ice cream was also very yummy.

National Harbor MD.
Vodka slice – Rubirosa

Vodka sauce, fresh mozzarella. Happy hour $3.50
Rubirosa, New York NY
This pizza was delicious and nicely priced by the slice during happy hour! The vodka sauce was yummy and the melted fres mozzarella cheese was a perfectly simple topping. Their pizza crust is thin and tasted great. Noms!

2012 Castel Sallegg ‘Bischofsleiten’ Schiava, Alto Adige DOC. $12

Madison Square Park.
Peanut butter and blackberry jam doughnut – Doughnut Plant

Original square yeast filled doughnut. $3.75
Doughnut Plant, New York NY

I liked this donut. I wish there would have been more of the yummy jam filling though. The donut itself had a great chewiness to it that I enjoyed, and it wasn’t overly sweet. Mmm…
