Coast Boy King double IPA – Poe’s Tavern

Coast Boy King double IPA - Poe's Tavern

A highly hopped, yet still balanced, double IPA. Multiple hop varieties, emphasizing Citra Hops, were used. We’re lovin’ the tropical goodness of this hop variety! 9.7% abv. Seasonal. Coast Brewing Company. $10
Poe’s Tavern, Sullivan’s Island SC

They had a limited quantity in the area of the Boy King beer during this trip so I couldn’t pass it up. I’m no beer expert but this was good – definitely on the hoppier side.

Canon at Fort Moultrie
Canon at Fort Moultrie. Didn’t get a chance to check out Fort Sumter, but it was a beautiful day and Fort Moultrie was near Poe’s Tavern so I was able to check out this smaller, older fort.

Sweet tea brined NC chicken wings – The Bar at Husk

Ugh, such a disappointment! These wings had the crap fried out of them. They were SO dry that you really couldn’t taste much of the glaze. I can’t believe they actually sent this out!

United States Custom House. This large building looks a little out of place among the small businesses along East Bay Street and Market Street, but it looks pretty cool.

Husk fried kielbasa - The Bar at Husk
A pretty simple dish, but all the components were delicious! The kielbasa had a great smoky flavor and was nice and fatty. I loved the pickled egg and relish, they added some acidity to help cut the fat. I’m not a big mustard fan, but the beer mustard tasted great too.

Georges Bank sea scallops “confit” – The French Laundry

Untitled
Fava beans, piquillo peppers, braised pine nuts and serrano ham vinaigrette. Chef’s Tasting Menu $270
The French Laundry, Yountville CA

Hmm, compared to the rest of the meal this was probably one of my less(er) favorites. There was an unpleasant bitterness from the combination of pine nuts, scallop, and vinaigrette. It didn’t all taste bad, but it was too sharp on my palate. The scallop was super soft and tender though!
