Yam soup – Laurel Court Restaurant

Yam soup - Laurel Court Restaurant
Prix fix $45

The food and service here were good overall, but I cannot forget or forgive the horrendous behavior from the jerk of a host! He completely ruined our experience and so we will never return to this Laurel Court.

New England clam chowder – Sam’s Chowder House

New England clam chowder - Sam's Chowder House
Little neck clams, Yukon gold potatoes, smoked bacon, and cream. Cup $7.50
Sam’s Chowder House, Half Moon Bay CA

Mmm, this was pretty tasty. I liked the flavor and there was a good amount of ingredients in the chowder, but it still didn’t compare to the chowder at Spud Point Crab Company.

Carol's famous clam chowder - Spud Point Crab Company
Voted best clam chowder 11 years in a row. $6.75
Spud Point Crab Company, Bodega Bay CA

OMFG, this was probably one of the best clam chowders I’ve ever eaten! It’s no joke, this was frickin’ amazing. It was smokey, flavorful, and packed with clams and other ingredients. I loved it’s medium texture, and I could have eaten a vat-full. NOMS!

Laksa – Azalina’s

Laksa - Azalina's
Malaysian spicy noodle soup, with egg. $13
Azalina’s, San Francisco CA

I’ve never had laksa before and it was very delicious. I wish it could have been a tad bit spicier, but the flavors were really wonderful and comforting. I loved the fried shallots on top and I’m glad I opted for the addition of egg.

Bun bo hue – Pho Express

Bun bo hue - Pho Express
Hue style spicy noodle soup with beef. $7.95
Pho Express, San Francisco CA

This soup was very tasty and nice and spicy. Oftentimes, restaurants will shy away from being too spicy but this had a decent level of heat. I was surprised by the spaghetti noodles though. I guess I’ve never seen that before with these soups, and I’m just used to rice noodles.

Caldo Tlalpeno con pollo – Nopalito

Caldo Tlalpeno con pollo - Nopalito
Chicken consomme, carrots, cauliflower, broccoli, garbanzos, avocado, queso fresco and chipotle abodabo. $13
Nopalito, San Francisco CA

This soup was very flavorful, but surprisingly light compared to something like a pozole. I didn’t know what to expect and I was pleasantly surprised. The flavors were subtle but well developed. I was tickled by the dried whole pepper plopped in the middle.

Boston clam chowder – Swan Oyster Depot

Boston clam chowder - Swan Oyster Depot
Cup $2.75
Swan Oyster Depot, San Francisco CA

This chowder was very good, but it wasn’t amazing. I don’t know, I guess I was expecting it to blow my socks off since this place is generally great at everything. They keep it simple, but keep it quality at the same time. This chowder could have stepped it up a couple notches.
