What’s better with morning coffee than a delicious, flaky pastry that’s not too sweet and flavored lightly with citrus? Not much I suppose. 🙂

Espressamente Illy, San Francisco CA
This was really rich and delicious. I loved that it was large and sticky, and the bun was substantial enough to hold up to the generous helping of nutella.

Coffee. $2.75

Topped with almonds. $42.25
Workshop Cafe, San Francisco CA
I liked this enough, but I thought there was too much of the salted crystals on the outside. There wasn’t a good balance of salty and sweet.

With chocolate and slivered almonds. $1.75
Yummy Bakery and Cafe, San Francisco CA
I liked this enough, but I thought that the cone was too soft (it was probably old and had been sitting in the display case for a while). I also thought that it could have had a more intense coffee flavor.

Chez Choux, Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport (SHA)
I liked this cream puff. The cubes of fresh mango really made the difference. The puff was all more light and airy that their cocoa cookie puff which was a positive. Mmm…

Chez Choux, Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport (SHA)
Coming from San Francisco, I’m used to Beard Papa for cream puffs. This was a little different, but I thought it was pretty fun to eat with the crispy cookie coating. I thought the dough could have been lighter though.

Dried fish slice, chopped green onion, salad sauce. ¥8.2
How Sweet Bakery, Shanghai CHINA
This was a very interesting savory bun. It looked interesting to me so I decided to try it. The bun was covered in bonito flakes and green onion powder. It tasted very smoky from the dried fish flakes, and I enjoyed it. I don’t think it’s an item that I will suddenly craved, but I’m glad I tried it.

Six for ¥25.00
Hello Kitty Bakery, Shanghai CHINA
I was shopping in a mall and came across this Hello Kitty Bakery. These mini filled cakes were a nice snacky treat after walking around all day exploring the city.

Baker & Spice, Shanghai CHINA
This was very yummy! I loved the buttery, sugary interior while the exterior was nice and flaky. The layer of black sesame was a nice balance for the buttery layers.

Coffee. Regular ¥25.00

Mandarin and cherry danish. Complimentary in Executive Lounge
Millennium Seoul Hilton, Seoul SOUTH KOREA
I enjoyed the variety of breakfast pastries available at the Executive Lounge. They had enough to keep me interested each morning. They still weren’t going to win any awards with this “usually” dry pastries, but they were better than your typical bread and muffins.

Chocolate pistachio donut.

Chocolate croissant.

Braided apple pastry.

$3.50
Mr. Holmes Bakehouse, San Francisco CA
Mmm, I thought this donut was great! The dough was lovely and the chocolate filling was light and tasty.

With candied fig. $4.50
Mr. Holmes Bakehouse, San Francisco CA
This cruffin was good, but not as good as the first time I had it. The exterior was a bit hard and dry this time around. The maple cream flavor was also pretty light.
