Low country bbq plate – Seasons

Low country bbq plate - Seasons
Pulled smoked pork shoulder, buttermilk fried chicken, cheese grits, collard greens, jalapeno corn bread muffin. Sunday brunch buffet
Seasons, Washington DC

I was pleasantly surprised that the Seasons Sunday brunch buffet had a bbq station. I really liked the corn bread muffin. The pork was on the dry and tough side even while being super saucy which I liked. The fried chicken had a great flavor, but was a bit greasy.

Meats and sides – Seasons

Meats and sides - Seasons
Seafood etouffee, macaroni and cheese, braised short ribs, bacon, Maryland crab cake, grilled lamb chop, roasted cauliflower. Sunday brunch buffet
Seasons, Washington DC

I loved the variety of proteins at the Seasons brunch. Not everything was perfect, but I mostly liked the items. The short rib was dry for instance, but I really enjoyed the mac and cheese. The crust on the lamb chop was also nice and crispy and flavorful. The crab cake was forgettable.

Salads and soup – Seasons

Salads and soup - Seasons
Wedge salad, baby spinach salad, kale and beet salad, fall slaw, fennel and pear salad, cauliflower and pearl couscous salad, wild mushroom soup. Sunday brunch buffet
Seasons, Washington DC

I’m not a big salad fan. Actually, I usually skip them but there was such a nice variety that I tried some of them. And they were really good! They were all very fresh and packed with flavor. Mmm… I wasn’t very impressed with the soup though.

Seafood plate – Seasons

Seafood plate - Seasons
Smoked salmon, crab claw, shrimp. scallop, crab dip, ceviche. Sunday brunch buffet
Seasons, Washington DC

I really liked their seafood selection and I didn’t even try everything. The fresh items seemed pretty fresh and their prepared items had great flavors so it’s nice that they didn’t sacrifice quality for the buffet.

Charcuterie and cheeses - Seasons
Assorted cured meats and cheeses, honey, walnut, grape, cornichon, fruit compote, membrillo. Sunday brunch buffet
Seasons, Washington DC

This was my final brunch in DC spent with some co-workers and I had a great time! The food selection was great at the Seasons Sunday brunch. I tried to get a little piece of everything but there were too many things to try. Noms! (I kinda miss DC sometimes…)

Eggs St. Charles – Warehouse Bar & Grill

Eggs St. Charles - Warehouse Bar & Grill
Fried catfish topped with poached eggs and hollandaise, served with breakfast potatoes. $14.95
Warehouse Bar & Grill, Alexandria VA

The catfish was bland, the potatoes were sad, and the hollandaise was cold. Suffice it to say that I was NOT impressed and really just wanted to send this crap back.

Crawfish and shrimp beignets – Warehouse Bar & Grill

Crawfish and shrimp beignets - Warehouse Bar & Grill
New Orleans style deep fried fritters with garlic mayo. $10.95
Warehouse Bar & Grill, Alexandria VA

Omg, this dish was a joke! It was neither a beignet nor fritter. It was a soggy, squishy hot mess! I don’t know in which world you can call this a beignet, but it was false advertising. I wouldn’t have minded if they ended up being good, but they sucked. I’m still flabbergasted that they actually served these shitty cakes. And I wasn’t fooled by all the aioli drizzled on top. You can put lipstick on a pig, but it’s still a crappy appetizer.

Brunch salad – Society Hill Society

Brunch salad - Society Hill Society
Endive and greens, fried egg, bacon, walnuts, fig, apple ginger vinaigrette. $11
Society Hill Society, Philadelphia PA

Ugh, after having to endure the slower-than-molasses service and this mediocre salad, it’s safe to say that I will probably never return to Society Hill Society. And don’t get me started on that egg! It didn’t know whether it should be fried, steamed, or poached (even though it’s advertised as fried). Can it get any more awkward?

Sticky bun french toast – Society Hill Society

Sticky bun french toast - Society Hill Society
SHS sticky buns, honey ice cream, pecan maple syrup. $12
Society Hill Society, Philadelphia PA

This dish was tasty, BUT I could not get over how SLOW the service was! Omg, we waited SO frickin’ long between everything – getting seated, having the waitress take our drink order, her bringing us our drinks, taking our food order, finally getting our food, waiting for the check, etc, etc! This was the longest I’ve spent waiting at a restaurant with nothing actually happening. What is wrong with these people?!? I was not impressed…

Grilled prawns – a.kitchen

Grilled prawns - a.kitchen
Creamy grits, basque peppers, radish. $16
a.kitchen, Philadelphia PA

This restaurant was a HOT MESS! I ate at 5 different places that day, from cheesesteak to Jewish food to donuts to high end sushi, and this place was the worst! The service was awful for one thing. The hostess was a bit clueless (but nice enough I guess). Then the food! I got 2 super dried up prawns over bland grits with some greens thrown on top for sixteen bucks?! Is this a joke? Am I being punked right now! I ate one prawn and left the rest because it was unpalatable, and that dressing was overly acidic. But apparently they don’t really care if you don’t like your food because they’re gonna get paid regardless. Ugh, this was a complete failure.
