Assorted tacos – The Castro Republic

Assorted tacos - The Castro Republic
Chorizo, fried avocado, adobo chicken, taco de hongos, and beer-marinated steak. On organic corn tortilla, onion, cilantro relish, lime, and roasted tomatillo salsa. Taco Wednesday, each $2
The Castro Republic, San Francisco CA

I miss Taco Wednesdays at The Castro Republic! The tacos were so cheap, and yet they were of good quality and variety. Alas, I’ve moved to a neighborhood further away and have changed gyms. 😦

House “cappuccino” 1919 – Tosca Cafe

House cappuccino 1919 - Tosca Cafe
Marie Dufau Bas Armagnac, bourbon, Dandelion chocolate, ganache, organic milk. $12
Tosca Cafe, San Francisco CA

This boozy “cappuccino” was good, but I’m not convinced that it should be on the 7×7 Big Eat SF list. There are better cocktails in this city. Sometimes I wonder if 7×7 gets kickbacks from these restaurants to get items on their list. Hmm…

Cuttlefish “Obama” croquettes – Paco Meralgo

Cuttlefish Obama croquettes - Paco Meralgo
Each €1.95
Paco Meralgo, Barcelona SPAIN

I thought that this menu item description was a bit racist with the “Obama” descriptor. I think it’s a bit silly that just because the croquettes are dark from squid ink, they add the name “Obama” to the menu. But regardless of that, these were very tasty. I loved the squid ink flavor and the texture of the croquettes. The aioli was also a great accompanying sauce.

Shrimp - Paco Meralgo
Raw shrimp on the counter.

Roasted chicken for 2 – Tosca Cafe

Roasted chicken for 2 - Tosca Cafe
Ricotta, pine nuts, marsala. $48
Tosca Cafe, San Francisco CA

This was delicious! The breast wasn’t the most succulent roasted chicken I’ve had, but I loved the Italian flavors with the marsala sauce. I also thought it was super cute that they kept the chicken claws attached to the drums (sorry it’s cut off in the pic). Was it the best roasted chicken? No. But it was SO worth the relatively low $48 price tag for roasted chicken (for two people) in San Francisco.
