House-smoked salmon – 1601 Bar & Kitchen

House-smoked salmon - 1601 Bar & Kitchen
Burnt onion creme fraiche, turmeric gel. $15
1601 Bar & Kitchen, San Francisco CA

This smoked salmon was delicious. It was SO soft and and flavorful. The burnt onion creme fraiche and turmeric gel were a nice touch but it really didn’t need many additions because the salmon was so good on its own.

What wasn’t very good was the service. It was very disorganized and slow. We literally had to wave down our server (or anyone actually) so get anything. Lame. It’s like nobody in this place had ever worked in a restaurant before it was so painful.

Chicken cellophane noodle soup – Joy Hing BBQ Noodle House

Chicken cellophane noodle soup - Joy Hing BBQ Noodle House
Mien ga long with bok choy, red onion, cilantro. Large $9.50
Joy Hing BBQ Noodle House, San Francisco CA

This was good, but it didn’t even begin to fill me up! They were pretty skimpy with the chicken so I even had to add bok choy to make it more substantial. I do like their garlic onion sauce though! I just pour the entire thing it into the soup and it makes it extra tasty.

Fried chicken – Ovok

Fried chicken - Ovok
Mashed potatoes with mushroom bacon pan sauce, steamed broccoli, extra side of gravy. $13.95
Ovok, San Francisco CA

This was kinda gross. Everything was just so heavy and greasy. I mean, look at the side of gravy! There’s a thick layer of fat just floating on top. The mashed potatoes were really dense clunky and even the broccoli was greasy. The fried chicken tasted good, but it was also pretty greasy. Yuck. You certainly get a lot of food though! Too bad you really don’t want to eat most of it.
