Half croissant, half doughnut pastry. $5
Dominique Ansel Bakery, New York NY

Well, the long line was hell (I think I waited for about an hour), but I’ve got to admit that this cronut was pretty amazing! I don’t even like rum raisin, but I still really liked this pastry. (They only feature one flavor each month.) I was struck at the perfect construction of this thing. The layers were perfectly cooked (moist and fluffy on the inside and crisp and flaky on the outside) and yet it still allowed for the oozy filling goodness in between. NOMS!

It takes up to 3 days to make one of these things, and I must say that their process certainly makes a near perfect pastry. I sometimes wonder if I’d wait in line again for this thing. Perhaps with the right flavor, I would. Who am I kidding, I definitely would! π

Cronut line at Dominique Ansel Bakery.
I will have to try these sometime as I do not like donuts but I do like the frosting and filling in a donut if they could just offer that!
So you’re telling me you eat jam by the spoonful, nice! π
I do scrape it out of a doughnut now and then but prefer the white angel cream π
Lol!
Apparently there’s an Ansel in Tokyo now, I’m sure the wait is similar [probably worse]. I despise places like that but if you say it’s that good… shrug
You know I’m not afraid of criticizing hyped food if they suck, but this was very tasty. The line was definitely lame, but it was an experience.
You have me half convinced… Maybe I could pay someone to stand in line for me.
People actually provide that service in NYC!
I doubt there’ll be anything like that in Tokyo… I wanna try the originals in NY 1 day so thanks for the heads up I’ll definitely look into it when the time comes.
I had my first cronut a few months ago at a Dunkin’ Donuts in Baltimore. Not impressed. Maybe it was just the crazy glazed sugar that DD coats it with.
Yeah, I haven’t tried any of the other “cronuts” yet since I wanted to try the original one first. I will have to try one now and compare. π
