Ali’i Luau, Laie HI
During my previous trips to Hawaii, I somehow managed to avoid attending a “cheesy” luau. Well, I made it my mission to finally go to one of these popular tourist attractions during this visit and what better place to attend one than at the Polynesian Cultural Center! Their website advertises the Ali’i Luau as Hawaii’s “Most Authentic Luau”, but I’m still not convinced of its authenticity after sitting through it. It seemed pretty cheesy to me. Nonetheless, I enjoyed the experience and the chance to check a Hawaiian luau off my bucket list. The food was ok as buffet food goes, and the entertainment was enjoyable. I don’t think I’d do it again, but I would still recommend it for those who haven’t tried it.

Taro roll. This was pretty good, especially slathered in butter, lol!

Entrance to the luau.

The dining area.

Luau entertainment. The show was actually pretty long with many dancers. The little kid dancers were SO cute to watch!
Sigh. I miss Hawaii.
I also thought the Polynesian Cultural Center’s Luau was cheesy and then after spending some time in Oahu with a native Hawaiian, I learned what a real luau was (they never stop! lol. In two weeks we went to 11!. The food though….yummy! I am now in love with Hawaiian food! Kalua Pig and Haupia = to die for! I never could get into the poi though. π You just made me hungry! ~ T & M
I really need to make it out to Hawaii more often since it’s really not that far from SF!
I’m dying to go to Hawaii. Looks great and the food just makes me want to go even more.
I’ve actually never made it out to Boston! I’ve been curious about the food scene there. Perhaps I’ll visit one of these days.
If you ever make it out to Boston, let me know! I’ll definitely point you in the direction of some great eats!
Will do!
It looks fun (and delicious)! I’ve never heard of a luau, what makes it so traditional/special?
A luau is a traditional Hawaiian feast/party where they usual serve authentic Hawaiian food and just have a great time!
