Huggo’s Ali’i Mai Tai: 10 Cane rum, Lemon Hart 151, pineapple juice, exotic liqueurs with a Gosling’s dark rum float. $11
Huggo’s on the Rocks, Kailua-Kona HI
Vacation is relaxing outside, taking in some rays, and sipping on sweet, girly tropical drinks. Lol! I think we accomplished that in Hawaii. This mai tai was a little on the “too” sweet side, and the margarita was super weak and a bit bland. Oh well, can’t win em all…
Huggo’s Famous Back Bar Margarita: premium tequila, grand marnier, lemon and lime juices with a splash of orange juice. $11
Bird of paradise flowers (Strelitzia reginae, Strelitziaceae), KOA airport.
Strelitzia, the Carmen Miranda of the plant world. I love it.
Really? I’m not a fan. Of the plant, I mean. Too showy and common for my taste.
I think you have more to choose from! Strelitzia is a botanic garden greenhouse favourite here, with a history. Named after the Queen of Mad King George (Helen Mirren if you a moive goer). I hope this link works to a historic botanic print!

I love all your historical botanical knowledge! π The print takes me back o grad school when we would have to go through old, beautiful texts looking for original species descriptions. But I think you’re right, we see birds of paradise far too often here to fully appreciate them.
Botanical history is a thankless job, but someone has to do it. lol. π
Looks delicious!!
How it looks makes it refreshing enough!
Wish I had that Mai Tai! It looks delicious!
Me too! I could use one right about now, lol!
